Title: text options
Post by dognapot on 03/12/03 at 00:23:49
sometimes you need a little something extra to drive your point home or display sarcasm in an easy to understand form. for that reason could we please use italics, bold, and underlining in our chat in game. it could work like the forum or like a word program, i.e. toggling it would mean pressing ctrl+b = bold, ctrl+i = italicized etc.

hmm wouldn't ppl with half a brain recognise sarcasm? and if you do / me  (EDIT wrote what i said like i did the command) wouldn't that be the same as something been italic or bold?

anyway it could be easier the way you propose it so i'm not really against it but i do not c the real need for this (i still think jlh has more important things to do to the game then programming nice options like this)

This is another instance where the fact that a few people will us it in excess (annoying everyone); keeping it from being put in most likely.

Though I'm all for it.

Sarcasm rarely seems to come across in chat unless the person you are chatting with has actually talked to you "live" before.

* runs into this on a daily basis...

Perhaps I'm just too sarcastic :)

Me: Dell sent me another advertisement.
Me: This is the best thing to ever happen to me!
Person: Are you serious??
Person: If you are that is sad.

sigh. it's the idiots that need to see the emphasis, but these are the very people that would abuse it. I like the fact you can gain emphasis by using plain text, then following it up with a * statement.

Creative people seem to do just fine.

We raise the bar for some, while others persist in stumbling under the bar. That will happen no matter where you set the bar.
