Title: Rangers with Mods
Post by Everlast on 12/31/03 at 00:22:53
Ok, I've got a couple of master rangers.  I mess with the human's stats because the way I've got them on is the only way that makes sense to me.

Human w/ granite amulet and sgs
20 x 20 19 19 19

Halfling w/ granite amulet and sgs
19 x 22 18 18 19

Human with aoh and sgs
19 x 21 19 19 19

halfling with aoh and sgs
18 x 23 18 18 19

Only way i figure using a human makes any sense is if it has a granite amulet on it because halflings w/ granites get same str as humans with aohs and an extra dex.

With enhance a halfling with sgs and aoh goes to
23 x 23 18 18 19

With enhance a human with granite and sgs goes to
26 x 20 19 19 19

This is basically how my crits look w/ spells (human is off 1 char, doesnt matter for hit w/ rapid fire)

Human's max hit was 112 w/ enhance
Halfling's max hit was 110 w/ enhance

Why does 3 more strength only make my human hit for 2 more damage?  I walked around for a good hour or so testing their max hits.  If it would take more than an hour for one of them to hit harder than that, then the hit is so rare that it wouldn't make any difference in training.  Seems like he ought to average hitting around 6 more than the halflings do.

These hits were on Modern Art Sculptures on the 2nd floor of Zeum.

So that is my question. This more directed as a request for it to be changed or an explanation as to why it changes the hit so little to JLH and Pandilex.

Why on master rangers does 3 strenght only change max damage by 2?

Thanks for any help given,
Peace,
Gaddy

Maximum hit with 23 str, lvl 30, 21 base weapon is 123.
Maximum hit with 26 str, lvl 30, 21 base weapon is 133.

10 Difference.. The minimums are both 42.

Average hit with 23 is 82.
Average hit with 26 is 87.

Only 5 difference, you must've been unlucky. (Of course everything there is completely ignoring armor since the stats of the character has no effect on that).

You rapidly fired at a Modern Art Sculpture from your Enchanted Bow for 115 points of damage.

Uhh..that took me about 3 hours :-\  He had a 113 in the same round.

This is just me zeum training/gold making without scroll on that 1 crit for a time.  I usually have scroll on everything except my cleric that way i get 0 lag.  5 damage difference, w/ enchanted bow...i guess thats good alright, but honestly I'm never making another human ranger if thats all its gonna be in the difference of training.

Halflings get +6 armor and higher dex, only 1 less strenght and equal charisma.

Humans get an extra wisdom which is practially never used and their cons doesnt give them higher hp at all.  My human's hp is 1 higher than my halfling's and that is just because the halfling went 8 straight levels without a 10 hp gain.

Humans need to get their special thing.  Dwarves underground.  Elves in forests.  Halflings armor.  Humans are probably the worst race along with halfelves, they both need to get some help.

+1 to a stat won't make a noticeable difference in anything. You should just make any new crits you want Halfling. Their HP gains are similar to all other races, as is their damage. The +dex is nice along with that. The only class I wouldn't suggest making them is a Cleric, or a Pacifist.

P.S. They get +7 AC not 6.

Hm, with the formulae I have youve got a 0.8% chance of beating 115 with 23 str soo.. JLH must've changed them :p
