maybe bringing up a dead topic here but ASCII map maker when i try to open it, it says open with.... and i dont know what to open it with

I saw this and thought it sounded all too familiar ::)
So I went and tried i out myself... and the only thing I can think of is that you have a computer which doesn't know what zip files are ^^

This may sound highly patronising or it may just sound really stupid... but is it possible that the computer in question is just really old? And doesnt have winzip or an equivalent? :-/

I think the problem may be that you download the file and you have to unzip it before you can use it. My old computer ...well its old ^^ It doesn't recognise zip files to say the least ... and as such I get the 'open with' prompt because it doesnt know what to do with the zip file.
Same problem when I somehow managed to get it to install, because it installed it incorrectly, leading to the same problem and the same prompt appearing.

Likewise on my newer computer which actually does recognise zip file I can unzip, install and load the programme in next to no time with no problems.

This may not be the problem, it just sounded familiar enough for me to figure it was worth mentioning ;D

Ok, it's only one of two things..
1) Are you 100% sure you're trying to execute the .exe ?
2) You're trying to run a .zip file, and your machine doesn't know the file type, download this (http://www.winzip.com/downau81.cgi?winzip81.exe).

Hopefully either one of those will sort it.

hehe for people that feel bad about illegal copies and so on there is 7-zip which is free and can be used the same as winzip.

or if you dont use winrar and stick to boring old winzip 8.1 and arent used to the pay money thing... just register it

Don't use it to generate maps.. I think you have to have a previous version knowledge, or to have been shown properly by someone in the know. Just use the program to map out areas.
