Title: Ughh.. Common day NM...
Post by E_Mc2_Trooper on 10/10/03 at 04:56:19
Okay, this is really irritating me. I have no idea why I am making a topic, but.. I've gotta let it out.

A players experience with the game is NOT based on character level! I've have... Many characters come up and call my character "Haha u teh n00b"

Why? Because I am walking around with a level 12 Pally that only has around 4 hours on 'em.

I can fully understand that, but the amount of people that run around thinking that these newest towns (Haven't been there yet, don't know the names)  of Nightmist have been there forever.

Most of them never knew that there was a reset.

Alot of them will call you a newb for even saying that there was a reset.

And these characters are level 25-30, mind you.

I would get my old characters, expecially Mr_Jingles (3rd Non-Staff character created in old nightmist) but JLH isn't up for restoring characters... Or at least for me.

But having a character made several moments after the game was reset would be some good proof that I've been around much longer, wouldn't it?

Nah, I've tried that before. They just call me a "Moron" and never bother to /who me.

*Shrugs* This game is really going downhill with average IQ...

I really think that JLH and Pandi should bring up the IQ test for making new characters. (Was slightly thought about when making precautions for rolling new characters)

Think I'm a newb? Check my Profile, been here longer than you, even though my old account got deleted.

Still don't believe, hit yourself, it might increase your IQ.

Anyways, what has happened to Krillick and Isyng? Did they lose their position? Because... They were... The original Nightmist-ees.

* is patiently waiting for the large amount of flames.

Just because you played pre-reset doesnt make you not a newb lol.

Wow, I guess I was right about that flame comment at the end...

Oh yeah, Outsider, you've been here at the forum for what, a month now?  ;)

Anyways, there IS a bit of a difference between newb, n00b, and "You suck at this game."

Me, I'm in that "Suck at this game" party.

Oh yeah, didn't take me 4 hours to level to 12, took 4 hours to realize how much as happened since I left, including the whole names being blue/green thing. That really confused me, and my mind immediately went to the "Life after Level 30" topic, and the whole ressurection idea sounded cool, and it was going to turn peoples names blue if they reset their char..

So, I thought that they put that in, and that everybody was a level 30 ressurect... Kinda confused me.

As for the "Fight and prove them wrong" comment, my characters are gone, don't feel like starting from scratch, AGAIN.

Done that, around 5 times... Most the time get to level 15/20 and stop.

Why? Because it's too hard to get to talk to anybody. Some guy PKs you, and you could page him saying "Nice char. Sure beat me :P" And he's reply saying "Omfg, n00b hahaha"

*Shrugs*  :-/

Oh yeah, thanks James, for... Kinda agreeing to me. Yeah, they are gonna all me idiots, but I made this topic in search of somebody that could intelligantly flame meh.

All I've gotten was 1-liners, from all but you.  8)

common day, common night.

There will always be a few or more than a few that go around pking people.  Some i have kindly paged informing them that they get more exp from killing monsters.  Some responded badly, some ignored my comments.  In either case, I have told them a piece of my mind.

I like to foster good will between people, help out those that need it when I can.

I remember the pre-reset too.  I miss the old camaraderie of a group of players banding together to go take out the ogre that drops the large club.  Now it seems that it is a game of alts.  The one with the highest level alts and the most alts logged in at the same time wins.

With the exception of moshes, most training expeditions are risky due to prevalent pkers.  If you look on the site, there's even a place for a ranking of player killers.

The few people I talk to now are people I've known in the past, or people who share similar interests in other things outside of nightmist.  I've talked to someone about Raymond E. Feist books.  I've talked to someone else about dnd 3rd ed. And yet another about old nightmist and what I remembered.. Another about Utopia (another online game).

It just depends on who you end up talking to.  The chances that you'll get the "you are a newb" comment is higher simply because there are more youngins in the game.

Peace,
Be Well,
Dark_Jester

Outsider... One.. I've gotta ask ya something...

Err, possibly two...

Anyways, how often to you get into large arguments? Because, from the little I've seen of you, it's amazing you have any friends...

In NM, or real life.

*Shrugs* Maybe because I've been here longer, you're yelling...

Anyways, yeah, some people are really big newbs, even if they have been here.. For awhile.  :P

Me, I just try and train, occasionally getting jumped by a group of level 30's with nothing better to do.

Sad thing is, even when I have proof that I've been here longer, * has a text save from old NM on other comp. they just act stupid, and flame...

*Shrugs*

Dark Jester is right - you just have to choose the players you surround yourself with; and practice lots of tolerance...

What i dont get is how u say just because u played pre-reset makes u "not a noob" or "better than current players".Your being hypocritical of your own post, by calling outsider a noob just because he didnt play pre-reset. Only thing that proves is that you found the game and played before us. Another thing is everyone gets criticized everyday in this game and even irl. It's life deal with it, People are gonna think what they want about you so let them. By you posting this it makes it look like your guilty or something. Im not flaming you or anything im just telling u this is reality. Sh*t happens, Play the game.

Who cares what they call you? Just carry the knowledge that you are better than these people that have to call you names and act tough on a game to make themselves feel good. When these kids talk trash, what they really mean to say is "I'm a loser with no life, please don't hate me. Those insults were meant to be friendly. I'm a nice guy if you get to know me outside Nightmist."

/scoff (too bad there isn't one)

Just to answer the last question you answered in your post, I(Isyng) quit a few months back due to my increasing inactivity. Krillick's staff character was deleted through inactivity. I can be found ingame on occasion playing a pacifist, the whole using multiple alts thing just isn't for me.

As for the rest of your post, it's impossible to command respect from the majority of the NM players for any reason other than having lots of power. As has already been pointed out, the best thing to do is simply to ignore the masses and try to find a small group of like-minded players.

I gotta agree with the Frogster. Why would you even let them get to you..?! These people are in a virtual world mind you.. and they're going to run their mouth.. it must be mandatory in their religion or something.

I do agree with the E_Mc2 person. Ever since I've started playing.. IQs have dropped enormously.

first of all: nobody cares if you played pre-reset. this isn't pre-reset is it? nobody cares if you have player longer then most of us. the meaning of the nightmist term 'noob' is if you have no characters to defend yourself with. if you don't have 4-5 characters over the level of 25, you're a noob

so stfu and quit your whining, noob.

Glad to see some people agree... Expecially with the lowering of the IQs.

Outsider, still has to be an arse and disagree with anything I say, or anybody that agrees with me. * shrugs.

Anyways, the only reason it's gotten to me, is because I page somebody, and 9/10 times, they say "omfg newb on weak char harhar i'm 1337."

No, I'm not better than anyone. I admit that I am bloody horrible at this game, but, I occasional still come back for another try at it, but I can't deal with this game for too long.

I have yet to find Pippin, Baha, or Dragon_NBM or whatever he is now, because the Beanies were stolen, then remade. (I was gone during this process, still find it shocking)

I hate to yell out on NM who I am, asking if anybody knows my char, because... Last time I did I had this Ranger following me doing the /kiss /hug /lick thing for a couple hours.

And by that, I mean, I'd quit, and rejoin, they'd be waiting.

*shrug* I thought I was the only one proud to be a newb b4 I met maha, even tho I have high lvl crits, I like to help newbs and hang around them to try to get them not to do what everyone hates them doing and guide them otherwise. As for you E_Mc2_Trooper, I haven't played pre-reset, but im pretty sure I came around right after it. Leveling in the game becomes increasingly easy, you, or anyone else who needs help training quickly just has to memo me, and i'll show you the spots.  :D Id rather do that than to sit on here and yell at ya.

If you haven't noticed, it's everything that I'm saying that he has a problem with.

I say that the average IQ of the players seems to be decreasing, somebody quotes me on that, and he has to flip out and attack him too.

Thats why, not because he disagrees with me.

For example, you seem to think that I'm some idiot newb, I can disagree, but I'm not gonna flip out and insult you.

...Thats the difference.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Drake_Lord, could you memo "Shadic" in the game? I need to figure out some good training spots now. All mine seem to have been fidled with.

Thanks.  8)

Props to Drake_Lord, member of the "proud to be a newb gang". I even make my AFK messages "n00bish". Nothing wrong with being a newb and helping other newbs. ;)

P.S.:

When someone calls you a n00b ingame, you can give them the same answer I give them:

Give it some time, and I won't be a noob anymore, but you'll still be ugly.

*gives maha a high five and a hug* I agree, allthough I haven't figured out the difference between a n00b, newb, and noob. I dont know if NM has a standard or anything... I go by what the creators of the game as follows:

WHAT'S A SNERT?

From time to time you might see people mention the word 'snert.'  While the deepest origins of the term appear lost in time, it was contributed to the Nightmist mythology by Edix.  Definitions vary, but basically it describes someone who diminishes the pleasure of the game for others. You don't want to be a snert, in language or in deed.  Most  administrators will banish you from the server if you engage in snertish behaviour.  (I call that: 'Getting Snertified.')

'Snert' is used instead of 'newbie' since we all start life as newbies, but we don't all start life as snerts.

I just havent seen any definitions for the others, but I have seen several snerts on the forum. I can't change them, that's just the way they are. All I can do them is show the path to walk, it's up to every player to walk down it or not.  8)

Title: Re: Ughh.. Common day NM...
Post by Lady_Maha on 10/13/03 at 01:08:02
From other posts about definitions I take it that the word newb is indeed supposed to be a title for new players, new to the game, while the noob or n00b is generally used for what Edix defines as a snert, although those two often get mixed up.

Snertish/n00bish behavior usually consists of insulting other players, scrolling, harassing, begging for gold and items and such.

Many people make use of the word noob lightly, without consideration, not neccessarily defining the insulted person as a noob/newb, but instead making themselves look like one.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightmist, where a noob isn't neccessarily a newb, but almost always a snert, while those who are called noob sometimes are simply newbs, and occasionally not even that.

;)

But yeah, I remember hearing the "Snert" part, forgot about it though.
