You want the truth!!? You can't handle the truth!!

Could we please get some feedback on this? I believe we're all a little curious.

Yeah I quit, for many reasons. Mainly because of ungreatful players, accusing me of cheating and crap like that. It's pretty bad when my irl husband can't even log on without being harassed by some manipulative jealous little kids. Frankly instead of putting up with all the bs i'd rather just play the game and give all those whiners one less reason to complain. I may still work on offline areas and send them in though, so there really is no big loss here. Just a benefit to me, because without my staff crit no one can possibly accuse me of cheating if you know what i mean lol.

There's the 2nd staff that quit due to obnoxious players whining to them.  I love the respect some people give staff...

Valeska, on behalf of the silent majority, we thank you.

We know that most of the time you are forced to deal with the most obnoxious, least grateful, and pettiest among us.  We understand that the effort that you put into this community often goes unnoticed.  We realize that you have other demands on your time and that the effort that you spend here is a sacrifice.  We know that even the best of us often make a difficult, tiring, and thankless task even more so.

Thank you.  Thank you for building and maintaining this community.  Thank you for your time, your energy, and your devotion.  Thank you for making our time here more enjoyable, even when it has meant heartache for yourself.  Thank you for making Nightmist the place that we all choose to be.

I haven't read the forum for a day or two, so I just now stumbled over this post to find out what happened.

I remember talking to you when you first became staff, and about having to deal with the accusations and bs staff puts up with on an everyday basis. It's sad to see you quit staffing because of this after all, although I completely understand your reasons. It seems that lately it's become a new sport to accuse staff of cheating when their clans or mortal crits achieve something, and that is sad.

I hope you enjoy the game some more, now that you can fully concentrate on your mortal crits, and although your time as staff didn't last all that long, we appreciate anything you did during that time and before, and probably will continue doing for the game.

Wait... Stop! This is total BS.... I haven't had the chance to harass him yet.... Noah ya better watch out.. I'm looking for you! ;D Poor Jess... one of the few Staffers I would trust... The really stupid thing is, You and Noah worked hard at this game to get what you have before you were ever staff... I think if these children would sit back and think about it before they run their, as much as you guys play and enjoy the game... why would you want to cheat.... it wouldn't do anything for you but make it boring and not worth playing anymore.. So obviously those jealous little kids don't think much ::) Take care!

Who the hell cares what anyone thinks Jess. You earned the spot. You played the game, made many suggestions and were a d**n good staff member. If the other staff members feel that you didn`t do anything wrong then why the hell should you care what anyone thinks.
Further more insulting staff oraccusing them of cheating(in the event that the accusations are false) is a bannable offense. I say call their bluff. If they feel you have/are cheating do a /who on any other staff member. Have them email the compant and when it is found to be false ban their azz.
This is a all out crock of shiznit. I never had the opertunity to meet some of the prereset staff(I hear they were the bomb), but in my time here I have saw a few and with Jess included the current staff is by far the best I have saw. Each with their own crazy personalities bringing a very well rounded group of young staff that makes the game enjoyable.
Jess I would hope that you would reclaim your staff crit and do what you set out to do. Make your mark in NM forever by creating an awesome area that will be here long after Noah has carried you off in the sunset.
Staff enforces many rules. I strongly suggest that they enforce the rules in regards to harrassing staff. It is a shame that it has come to this.

Typical example of what the people on this game constantly do to us (staff). We will put a lot of time and concentration into such things and receive 50 times more complaints that it is unfair/totally crap idea than gratitude for trying...

Personally after having the same kind of complaints when I first became staff (over a year and 1/2 ago) of me cheating with my alts. I pretty much decided to give them up and I very rarely log them on anymore to avoid accusations. It's my friend's irl who have access to them and have that pleasure. It is really ridicules the way players react to us and I hate to sound all arrogant here but all the fingers simply point at jealousy. For some reason, you think by making a member of staff get fired or drive them to quitting, you have a slightly greater chance of becoming staff yourselves? Well I'm sorry but I understand completely why staff have left in the past and will go still in the future for the same reasons as Valeska.

Back to the main topic after unleashing that before running away from net access for 3 weeks (on vacation) as to not hear players reacting to this as I doubt it will be good for me as a member of staff.
I'm sorry you left Valeska and I'll personally miss you and the whole game will also subconsciously miss the areas and time you put into the game. Enjoy the life as a mortal and I hope you will be left alone by the rest of the game now. Good luck and I'll cya around.

ps. Stotic, I'm sure there has been more than 2 members of staff quit or pushed to quit by admins over this kind of issue in the history of nightmist when all the staff/admins have known that the individual did nothing wrong but become unpopular.

Not sure on exact figures, but alot more than 2 have gone from idiots!
All area developers are eventually doomed, no matter how good they are at doing the areas, there will always be the arrogant and ignorant people who can't use the area, because of level restrictions or just too hard for them to handle. However, when the staff has been fired the area is a wonderful area, shame you weren't saying that before, alot of you players are decent and mature, shame it has to be overshadowed by the minority of immature selfish playres there are. >:(

Not to just step in but if you truly do wish to still work on a game so to speak without hassle I do have a rather interesting proposition for you. Not to draw attention away from NM in any way just a rather large step has been made in Free Online MUD games, and I was rather curious about the whole willingness to help.

No thanks. After all the experience i've had playing other games I haven't liked any or its players as much as nightmist. Truthfully I don't even like games, but I sure got sucked into this one lol. My husband thinks i'm nuts because I prefer NM over the xbox.. go figure. As much as I do not agree with some of the upcoming changes of nightmist I will continue to play with enjoyment along with my 40 odd characters lol. It is rediculous the crap staff has to put up with, players never appreciate the things staff do put into the game souly for their own FREE entertainment, instead they like to point out and harass them over the minor stuff. Needless to say I am currently working on yet another area offline, when I've got the basic outline done i'll make sure to post on development forum for you all to see. Just because i'm not staff doesn't mean I can't continue to help. :)

p.s. thanks to all of you who do appreciate the staff, without you I think doing the job would be almost unbearable.

edit: to Rick: Preach it brotha preach it! Can I get an amen?!
Poke Smotter-4-life! Lol.

We don't talk anymore. I've known you longer than any of these moronic people that accused you of cheating.. and I KNOW you wouldn't dare cheat. Jeez, you weren't even staff for that long. Shouldn't of let these people get to you... that's the part that somewhat disappoints me. Anyway, sorry to see ya go. Good luck.. with whatever.

A perfect example of why staff shouldn't reveal player alts in the first place.  If no-one knew who you were, they couldn't consider you of cheating, they couldn't harass you on your alts and they sure as hell couldn't harass your friends.

Add into the games rules that staff alts aren't to be discussed, that way if anyone spreads any rumors or causes you trouble on alts they can be banned, quick and easy solution.  Of course current staff members are already known, but for future staff.

No, they shouldn't have to do that. Staff shouldn't have to hide who they are in order for the ignorant people who accuse them of cheating to shut up. People should just grow up, shut there mouths, and stop playing the game if they think it has so many flaws.

It's not a question of them 'having' to do it - it would make the gaming environment BETTER for them.  The only thing they'd lose is bragging rights on player alts, which isn't what they're on staff for anyway.

By the way, it isn't hard to keep your alts secret, I did it for a long long time until I finally told someone - which was probably the worst thing I'd decided to do because that opened the floodgates to a wave of harassment.  It was fine before then.

All I ask is for people to indiscriminately think about it.. if people were to find out indirectly and cause trouble, then staff would actually have a reason to 'punish' them - as it is now they have no-one but themselves to blame for any abuse they recieve on player alts.

I agree, it would be a whole lot easier on the staff (except the ones who's alts are known already) and if the staff don't tell anyone, noone will know.

Title: Re: Valeska?
Post by Lady_Maha on 07/25/03 at 22:42:40
Although I do agree that it would probably save the staffers from harassment if their identity wasn't revealed, I think it would make being staff a lonely existence. Personally I wouldn't want to hide who I am from my friends ingame, although I probably wouldn't advertize it to the rest of the NM population.

What needs to be done is stricter punishment for those who make it hard on staff. If you accuse a staff member of cheating without reasonable grounds, you should be banned, same if you harass a staff member on their mortal alts.

Im a little slow on this post as I couldnt access the forum for Ages!
Valeska, I dont know what to say. Im sorry you had to deal with the nonsense from the players. Unfortunately that happens.
As for staff keeping their mortals secret, there is two sides to this argument.
1: There is no harrassment and accusations of cheating
2: Maha is right, it Is lonely.
Now for me to clear this up with examples. It came out who my mortal crits were when I was first made staff over two years ago. The only problem I had with people knowing was all the friends I had before I made staff were jealous and all of a sudden didnt like me. This includes real life friends that play the game. Thats just sad isnt it LOL. Its part of becoming staff, so no big deal. Well in a short time I let that alt fall dorment because I wanted in game friends without the fear of them knowing who I was and trying to abuse the friendship. I made new alts, I had name changes done when to many people figured out who I was. This led to a lonely Nightmist existance. I trained alone, kept to myself. This made me stop playing mortals. Face it, without social interaction Nightmist is nothing.
Well after so long, I got back into the game, realised it was just as lonely then as it was before. I decided to let it be known who my mortals were. I dont openly tell anyone who asks who my mortals are, but its not a secret any longer. Im not a rich player, I dont have the best of items, and I still keep pretty much out of the game's eye on my mortals. I have absolutely no problem with harrassment or being accused of cheating for my mortal crits. I guess this means that you can play and be known, but never get to powerful?
One could say that staff shouldnt play mortal crits at all. Without playing mortals you lose touch with the game, thus losing the love for the game. When that happens you either quit or get fired due to inactivity. In over two years of staffing I have had one Major conflict with a player, and this happened Very recently. So maybe its the new wave of players? Maybe its the overall attitude of the staff member? All in all, alot of assumptions can be made, suggestions can be stated, but what is the true solution? I dont know if there is one.
Ive seen alot of staff members come and go due to harrassment of all sorts. What causes it may never be known for sure.I do know however, its a sad day when yet another member of staff leaves due to the harrassment and accusations they recieve. Can we not work towards a solution to this that doesnt interfere with a staff members ability to play the game as a normal person? I believe what this game lacks is simple. RESPECT! That is my long winded opinion.

Title: Re: Valeska?
Post by Zylia on 07/26/03 at 23:31:18
Well said Medora :)

Alot of harassment does come from knowing they have power. I think that -sometimes- the attitude that is presented on mortals, along with that power is what brings the most harassment to the staff member. Having a good attitude as a player and staff is important, and its needed even moreso if you are a valuable and good player. Some players get jealous of the people on staff with alot of in-game value. They see it as a rich player only getting richer. Theres more to staff than just a free level 100 crit and that is what most people don't realize. You need to care about the players and care about making the game better. When the players stop encouraging you to do a good job as staff and start accusing you of not doing your job correctly, how can you work efficiently?

Sorry to see you leave staff Valeska. :(
