Post by wonderful_nightmare on 03/23/03 at 14:57:54

i think thats a legitamite question....if excepetions are made for some...why not for others? The answer would be hes related to JLH...

I'm guessing either A) JLH sees a quality in Oracle that he wants to bring to nightmist, or B) Oracle is allowed to become staff because he is his friend.

As for the age limit, I'm guessing it is because they want a more mature individual to be staff, and also staff are cussed at pretty often it seems, or something is said to them in which he probably doesn't want a younger player to hear. Possibly he might just not  like younger kids lol.

Heh, I guess all those advanced maturity !5 year olds will have to wait then eh? Cant play with the big boys till ur numbers pan out? Why must everything be restricted by age? Like I know why porn is restricted, But a staff position? Myabe it should read somewhere along the lines of *Be more mature than a 16 year old*

:P :P

Jeeze I gotta stop ranting and raving all over the boards... :-/

Probably because people who are not of the age act as such

Yes but just like legal adult limit, and drinking age etc, it has to be set somewhere.  I trust JLH and Pandi to know about where to draw the line.

yes i understand that but my question is: "why is there an age limit if some ppl are staff while not beeing old enough?

it's like your allowed to drink when your 21 but some ppl are allowed to drinkwhen they are 18 (btw move to holland every 13 year old drinks here but ok)

I'm not trying to bring ppl down or anything I just wondered about this.

I am 16+, but there are people who are 16+ and are childish, and there are also people that are 15- that are quite mature.

I agree, older people can be quite immature. Sure I like to joke but I am pretty mature. On another note, staff were quite immature yesterday while I remained the calm, mature one. Maybe staff need to check their own maturity.

Edit: I would like to add that Pandilex asked how I expected to become staff, or even sent in an appliction at all. Maybe if they took the time to actually talk to the people they are having the problem with and understand what's going on, there would be less of this immaturity ingame.

Edit 2: If any of you are wondering, I am 16. Maturity isn't determined by age.

well i was gonna try for staff but the way it looks now when i read threads about some players beeing allowed to do more then others and me not beeing one of the staff's favourits (specially not after making a thread/post like this) i'm pretty sure it ain't gonna be me but it makes me wonder why ppl can even apply. if you ask me it's gonna be one of the staffs friends anyway so why just don't make a fuss and give ppl hope and just appoint someone you like instead of making alot of ppl apply in the hope they might get to be staff.

(sorry for my grammar and all but i'm sick and can't focus on what i'm writing and don't feel like editing :D)

Reasons are probably more like 1. Your grammar is horrible (doesn't have to be perfect, but yours is almost as bad as will's ::)) and 2. You often act very childish/immature (if you ask me).

I agree with what Newb said, maturity isn't determined by age, well, in some cases. I think staff should talk with those who applied, I feel they would discover much more about that person. Allowing them to truly seek if they are a mature one, or not. Opposed to merely stating that you are older than 16. This could possibly be a bad idea, depending on how many people applied.

There is no way to determine a person's maturity just by looking at there age, this is true.  Yet there always has to be a line drawn of who is old enough, and who isn't.  I have seen 14 year olds more mature than 30 year olds, but the 30 year old is still allowed to drink, drive, vote, etc.  If you are unhappy about the age limit, do liek the rest of us who arent old enough for something, in my case be 21 lol, and wait it out.  I can remember when I was 15 and couldn't wait to be 16 to drive, but wouldnt it seem quite silly to argue with the government that you are mature and should be able to drive?

first i didn't ask you and most of the time i do not take you and your friends serious that's why i never/ hardly ever react serious to things you say :D

trust me i can be mature :D and about the grammar read my last sentence :D

edit: as staff i could take you serious :D but that's prolly not gonna happen :D

There is no legal age limit to be a staff on any game... Well Ok they SAY you have to be a certain age, but there is no law that could charge you for being a staffer...

Well Unless I just couldnt find it, and it acctually DOES exsist...

Maturity Is not determined by age... I know some 10 year olds more mature than 50 year olds... It all depends on the person, not the age.

Did that make sense? Prolly not... Im not good at getting my point into words.  :-/

I am only 15 years of age, and I support the rule of 16+ only.  I know some of the kids my age, that I know at least, would be horrible staff.  I trust JLH and Pandilex made the right descision, which I think they have.  15 year olds such myself don't belong on a position that holds authority of any kind over anyone as far as I'm concerned, as humans don't gain full qualities of descision making until ages 17+ (thats the facts anyway).  Well, just wanted to bring up some points.

that minimum age thing is actually a good idea, not everyone acts there age, and very few really do, but it stands to reason that those who have had less time to mature have a greater potential to be immature or irresponsible. i remember being a fairly mature kid at 12 but i'd trust an older incarnation of myself more. i think it works the same way for everyone.

im making n area for the game, and i didnt get made staff, maybe that shows something.

If you think making an area entitles you to a staff position then maybe you shouldnt be making the area.

Then why Archie, are there 5 area developers?

what position do the new sysops have.....Area Developer, im jsut saying that before they asked all of nm for applications, i think they should have picked the people already trying to comtribute to the game, which i know atleast 5

i dont know, but im saying that i feel rather then asking the whole community for apps, they should have gone to the multiple people designing areas.
