Lag Issues (possibly my machine)

Yesterday i was forced to format my hard drive. Prior to me formatting, I could log onto AIM and NM at the same time without no lag issues. After formatting, i can't log onto AIM without getting lag issues in general. I'm running Windows XP, sadly, and if i push CTRL+ALT+DEL and i go into my Networking tab, it maxs out at .24%. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? Isaiah.

assuming you have a 100mbps network card, 0.24% of 100mbps is 240kbps, which is usually (obviously other services are available, but this is most common) the maximum for uploading on dsl/cable (256kbps), so something is basically uploading constantly, and lagging you out.

I do have a 100mbps card, but i'm only connectiong on a dial-up through a network. My point still stands, my AIM still lags me out while i'm doing nothing.

with aim closed, is the graph on 0? when you load aim, it goes to 0.24%? when you close it again, it goes back to 0? if this is true, something in aim is uploading a lot, and that's all the help i can give, as i don't use aim, pandilex however, does use aim, and probably has an idea what it is.
