Lag Issues While Playing The Game

I've played Nightmist for over a year and a half now and never had even 1 technical issue . . .
However since last night I've not been able to maintain a stable connection to nightmist . . .
What happens is . . . I log onto my account manager without any problems . . . then sometimes I cant connect to the game (This issue has only happened a couple of times) . . .
Then when I get onto the game every 15 seconds or their about I totally lag out . . . I've been doing ping checks while sat on the same square . . . 5 or 6 of them would range at about 60-100 ms then I'd over 20,000ms . . . few seconds later I'd either lose connection or it would go back to normal again for a short time . . .
I've checked my text buffer size which has been left at the default of 40k . . . I've done a pc disk clean up . . . I've defragmented and also run a whole pc virus scan to find nothing . . .
I even tried re installing Nightmist but no luck
Any advice or help would be really appreciated

Im using Windows XP pro . . . and I have tried connecting with and without the Windows XP default firewall . . . with same results

in the box, type: ping nm.nightmist-online.co.uk
should get a reasonably low number, depending on where you are in the world, up to about 200 ish. If this is really high in the box, type: tracert nm.nightmist-online.co.uk
and paste the result here, look for the row that makes it go a lot higher, then you know it's the link between that router and the one previous to it that is lagging.

i did a tracert back to you, and found that after it leaves leeds, it sometimes goes via manchester to get to you, and sometimes through various different huddersfield routers before getting to you. while this is normal for load adapting routers, i find it changing a bit to much, and some of the routers are dropping packets more. it should fix itself really, and the problem is down to ntl.
note, you have a 5ms ping to the server! It's always been an annoyance to me that the ping commands on windows 2000 round to the nearest 15 or 16th ms, not 1 like pretty much all the other operating systems do. Not very accurate for pings as you'll see below:

Sometimes the route only goes through 1 core router, then straight to the cable access module (which it should), but atm, seems to be going through both core routers in the area and both cable access modules. After the cam's it then goes onto your ubr, but since i don't know your real ip, i can't make the tracert go further, but luckly, it's not required as the problem is before then in the route.

I was actually thinking it was a windows problem . . . as someone pointed out to me last that they were recieving multiple lines of aol instant messenger from me at a time . . .
I've just reinstalled windows only to find that the problem has become even worse . . .

Got on the phone to NTL and they couldn't even ping me at first . . . I wasnt even on their systems . . . so all they did was re install my modem and so far so good

Using the ingame /ping command would be better tho since the route is ok.

Have you tried looking at what is running in the background?
AIM, MSN, IExplorer.exe, or anything else that could be different.
I was suprised when i did a ctrl+alt+del and found out that there was programs running I didn't know what they did. So i deleted them and my computer has been running nicely.
