I think it would be cool to be able to "rent out" your own crits for some time as mercenaries or something.  I haven't really thought this through but feel free to expand on the idea.

Interesting idea... /hire (crit name) to (whoever you're hiring the crit to) (x) hours for your (items, gold, etc). After x hours have passed, the crit is automatically transferred back to your account.

While your crit is rented, its equipment can't be changed in any way. Thus, you could rent out a crit and charge considerably more because it has a powerful weapon and strong armor without worrying about losing the equipment.

Example: /hire Crit to Person 1 hour for your 1000 gold.

It's basically modelled after the trade system with a few modifications.

Pretty good idea. Not sure if you'd get that many people offering their crits though.

This is a great idea.. Except the name of the rented crit would have to be changed, otherwise it'd be abused..

Make it so the crit can be set to attack players/not attack players? By the owner, before sending.

One possible solution could be to set a cap on the number of deaths when you first rent the crit out, and if that limit is reached the crit would be returned to your account prematurely.

I suppose if you wanted to look at it from a realistic standpoint, a mercenary might not want to stick with an employer if all his fights were losing battles.

Edit: Didn't notice a typo...

I agree with Kharybdis. A set limit to the number of deaths would work, both monster and player..

And would you really rent your crit to someone who might go out and get it killed purposefully..??

So you lose xp from being killed by monsters too...and that would make you unpk-able as a cleric?

Edit: Kharybdis has a nice idea, dont see any faults in that...

Bah the idea is bad for the fact of losing Exp. But if you could figure out a way to have a fixed deposit on the crit depending on the level. Thus the deposit being returned if the crit is returned unharmed?

Not a bad idea. I just think it needs more development to prevent those things from happening.
