Ok, I've seen heaps of people complaining that one of the problems with mages 'a la' training them, is that they run through mana faster than a naked man on a soccer field. So my suggestion is this:

Gryphon Blood Potion:
Can be used only by Mages.
Can be purchased only in Resthaven. (More appropriate location open to discussion)
Price: 350 gold per potion
Restores 175 mana.
One of the ingredients of this highly sought after potion is the blood of the mighty Gryphon itself, it's preparation is known only by the Magi High Council, who gaurd the steps to the potions concotion with an infallable fervour. More likely guarded due to the financial benefits of the product, rather than any arcane taboo, cut-purses and thieves will put life and limb at stake in order to acquire these potions.

Whilst the mana restored is the same as the glowing mushrooms, they are more easily accessed through store(s), and the price is significantly high enough to balance over use of the product, leaving the mushrooms far from obsolete, without forgetting the fact the potion may only be used by mages.
