I believe it would be nice to be able to change to a picture of your character to something unique, and of a player's choice. But, of course for a fee, which can be worked out of this actually goes to game.

There are two reasons why that shouldn't matter.
1) Staff should be intelligent enough to tell if the picture is appropriate or not.
2) Copywright can only get you in trouble if you make a profit from it.

Alright, I'll come at it on a different approach. Why not get an artist to come up with new pictures, and you could sell/auction them to players in the game. Is there an issue here?

If you couldn't, then there would be alot of people who create angelfire fan pages, who would be getting the (edit) sued out of them, as well as probally like...Diety, since you can have custom pics there, they'd probally get sued for it.
I do understand that some people would attempt to sneak "Vulgar", "Lude", or simply Distasteful pics, but that is allready cleared up at the top. Simply have staff monitor this, and only allow a custom pic to charecters who have reached say lvl 25, which would Reduce the number of people creating mass charecters, and taking all the staffs time up by setting up there pictures.
The only possible reason that I can think of for this feature not being added, is that it would take up so much room on the server,page,JLH's computer, or whatever. Having 100's of Pics to store there for custom.
(Diety is smaller, having very few players, therefore they can easily do it, where NM is alot bigger, and would have to deal with alot of pics)

I think the real reason is more of a space issue and the fact that it would cause more problems that solve. I mean if everyone wanted their own pic then each person would have to send their pic in to jlh and he would have put it on your character, i think the time spent on this wcould be used for much more useful things.

And if you were to BUY the picture, I would understand it being outrageously expensive, therefore wouldn't be as many pictures floating around. But for people who have gold, like myself it would be a nice feature.

Exactly, and unless JLH is making all those pics himself (which I highly doubt), it seems strange to me that there are no artists, and still pics have been added. To me, it looks like the only possible reason is that an artist is not wanted.
