When you log in the game a good idea would be a Map section somehwere. Like wherever you go it shows up on the map and stays.

well he has some point lol allmost everybody uses maps so maybe a small map in some corener would be a good idea cuz it would be easier for the players instead of having to change to a map site all the time they jsut c the map in their game screen thingy.
 
but it's prolly gonna be too easy specially with new areas.
 
so there is  a reason why they should be there and a reason why they shouldn't.
 
but in my opinion everybody got to explore areas so eventually i say no to maps Cheesy

I agree, no maps, I had to memorize all these areas with nothing but a bad memory and I did well. Others should be able to do the same.

In the old game you could purchase maps from supply stores, Bring that back. It was extremely helpful. I Still get lost on the way the blackthorn me and my newbie self, eh? Tongue.

look i like the idea of buy'n maps in shops again that was good but then there would have to be a ban on making websites with maps. (why buy a map if you can get it for free?)

Just curious, how exactly would you ban people from making map sites? Unless your the god of the world wide web, I see it very much impossible, but buying maps seems like a good idea, saves time from going to the site and then leaving your Nightmist window to check it out, maps could save lives.

but perhaps you could buy an auto map? showing your current position and the area around you. would open up in a separate window, about the size of your equipment square, so you could set it to cover up that area and not get in the way.  
 
 if that comes out, id sure buy a map.

its been done before, i know i seen one in another mud. (legends of cosrin....i belive that was it). so i think the source code for the program could be adapted easily enough to suit nm. however, finding the source code is the real challenge here. im not even sure if that mud is still around or not.
 but im sure if someone else made one, then john could too...he's smart like that.

i think there should be onlycertain places. like in boars tusk, i know when we all started out it was hard finding our way around, you would have the nightmist map in your inventory. there could be maps of meadow (basic map), arilin, and places like that.

I hated Boars Tusk Inn when I first started, this was my first text based game and I couldn't figure out the movements and no one would tell me, not even the person who introduced me to the game, lol but maps would be nice for the new people

I think (not played in a while) rok has a map whereby, as you visit places, it builds the map as you go around on your character, so you don't see places where you have not yet been. This is probably the best way to do it, but comes with certain problems for example, another square gets added to an area changing it a bit, it would completely confuse your map. Also, as Currupted said, it doesn't help newbies. If it were to show the squares you could go on the map, it would give out too much info regarding hidden areas.
In short, i can't see this happening.
Maps may be brought back into the supply shops, if an area developer thinks his/her map should be placed in a particular supply shop (for example, some place in dendeya could have a map to a new part of dendeya).

Well if we think about it that way... I guess JLH is right. A map shop, for example, wouldn't be so bad (/web link on it or something like that). No hidden squares of course. A smal map shop two squares from Boar's with a few basic maps would help newbs a lot.

hmm maybe you could make it so that at the start of each area you can put up a map and have a look at it with /map or something so you can look at the area and kinda figure out the way you should go to get somewhere but you can't take the map with you. so you can only look at the map at one point.
