I was speaking to Havanor on MSN, and his computer is still stuffed, so he is saving up for a new one so it shouldnt be too long before he has a new comp, and should be back on nightmist soon

Before I go and blow 2 grand on an Alienware, do any tech heads have any reccommendations on some other uber-comp companies? I'm looking for a good laptop.

build you own, much cheaper, and much better as for laptops, you just have to get the one you like the look of really, they are pretty much the same these days. get one with plenty of disc space tho

Is there a specific brand (of laptop) that might have more flexibility in terms of future upgrades? What I mean is if I eventually want to go and throw in some more RAM or whatnot, would it make a difference which brand I'd get?

There's a new Fujitsu out that lets you swap out the hard drives (up to 120GB as I hear) and you can easily change the RAM to 1GB...that's pretty hardcore for a laptop. It's a 2.66 P4. The coolest thing about it is it's screen...uses some sort of new technology to push the image onto the screen...it's called MVA (Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment) I don't know what the heck MVA does, but it's the crispest screen I've ever seen on a laptop. It's an SXGA 1400X1050 w/ 64K colors, but the MVA doohickey makes it really sweet. It's called the N-series.

If your looking for a nice up gradable laptop, I suggest Eurocom (http://www.eurocom.ca/). Even if you had the cash to burn on that Fujitsu shadowlord mentioned, I wouldn't suggest it. It's battery life isn't the best. And if you were going to leave it plugged in all the time, why not just buy a desktop? Ps. I apologize now for any typos/grammatical errors

I agree with Temp there, I've got a Fujitsu. The battery isn't much better than a double A. It runs out within a half an hour, and most of the time it shows that it isnt dead, it's halfway dead and just shuts off to save battery which it won't use. Mine's also been in the shop more than 4 times because the motherboard and the power plug-in have went to shiz. But if you do get the Fujitsu just make sure to get the warranty. I've spent over $2,500 on this $800 laptop, and I didn't spend a penny of it. Also, the LCD screen Fujitsu laptops really suck. They go blank anytime they want, and the only way to get them back is to reboot. Good luck either way.

At the moment I'm custom building a system and forgetting about that laptop. I'd rather spend 1.3 grand on a topline system than 2.2+ grand on a laptop that I cant customize with after market parts. Curious? CPU: P4 865PE (800FSB) Mobo: Asus P4P800 Deluxe Mem: Corsair XMS 2x256 PC-3700 HSF: Thermalright SLK 900U Sound: Creative Labs' Audigy 2 (5.1) Case Fans: 3x Vantec 80mm spectrums (with LEDs) I haven't decided on a case, display or gfx card yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
