Website Design Competition!

We think a website rennovation is long needed, and what better way to obtain a new one from the players themselves? We're looking for one or more people to design a website for the game. It must contain all of the information and links that are on the current one with the exception of the story on the main page. Every entry we judge to be of reasonable standard and effort will recieve a prize of 50-80k at the judges discretion. If we find an entry we like enough to use, the winner will win a bracelet of speed. Good luck! ~Pandilex

an extra requirement; any submitted entries must not use shareware code from websites such as dynamic drive, or any copyrighted code (including javascript). we also reserve the right to edit/optimise the code in any way we see fit to make it run better cross-platform wise or to make the code smaller so it takes less time to load.

Are y'all stuck on that black/yellow color scheme, or is that up for change? Any limits on languages/technologies used? Would you like us to stick to HTML/standard JS, or is SSI/ASP/PHP (just naming examples...) compatible with your server/host? It would be helpful to know what your system is capable of hosting. Thanks

Is there a limit on the amount of entries you can enter? I know there are several different ideas and designs that I like, and I think being able to send n more than one design would be good so u have more variations Also ... when will the contest be over?

| my pc could be set up to do others, but it shouldn't be necessary, the only dynamic content on nightmist is all the stats stuff of which most is created real time by the nightmist server itself on port 8080, whereas stats stuff on port 80 is created every minute by the stats engine. you shouldn't need anything dynamic so therefore asp/php/perl is not required. if you want to change the entire color scheme, and it's very good, i'll spend the time necessary to change all the stats stuff and forum to try and match. flash movies are not allowed. compatibility with ie6 is essential, if it doesn't work on microsoft's latest browser, your entry will be deleted. if it works on previous versions of ie, and/or netscape this will help your 'score'. you can submit more than 1 entry, but if all you've done is changed the color, it will be frowned upon.

Ok, I would just like a tad more clarity please, being I just spent time making flash animation and now it is not allowed. (I detest wasting time) You said that asp/php/Pearl is not required, but can we script it as such? or is there a specific language in which you would like this scripted?

| I'm not sure what you mean, you should be able to just make a file called *.html, and that's it, the only others you may need are .js (for javascript, but i'll probs mix it in to the html source anyway) and .gif (256 colors) and .jpg (24bit color). if you can't think of a way to do something in .html unless you do it in .asp/.php/.pl then tell me, and i will advise you on how it's done.

I know the languages, but there are different types of scripting techniques. Such as an entire site can be done many ways wether it be HTML code, PHP code etc... (an example of the PHP I'm speaking of would be that of NukePHP) I guess it would be easier to ask if there is a scripting code that is not allowed?

i do not know php, nor is my pc set up to use it. what i meant was, everything that is needed can be done in standard .html, if you want to script something inside your .html file, then that's fine, as long as it works on recent browsers and requires no additional server support. (for reference, i run microsoft win2k server, with internet information services (iis) 5). also, any code compiled to a form i can't examine won't be allowed, so compiling your entire site to .exe won't be accepted for the safety of my pc. basically put, if i can't read/edit your source code, it won't be accepted.

I fully understand the safety you are partaking in. Anyway I myself wouldn't be sending you anything more than a link to an already established page, as so you could simply view the product w/o taking time to open files or endanger your PC. Source coding is simple enough to obtain from the established page.

Not overly keen however, since the latest IE does not include the ability to display java applets. Javascript/DHTML would be much better.

Alright, havent seen the use for java applets anyway. Ugh this is hard, I had this perfect website design earlier with javascript 'onmouseovers' that would look really cool, and when I preview it, its all messed up!!! I give up . Here a tip for you designers taht are designing. In the <body> tag, go <body bgproperties = "fixed"> if you have a background image!

which reminds me, it has to work in all resolutions, if people resize their browser, or use a different resolution to yours, then the site should still work. (at least 800x600 shouldn't cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear at the bottom).

So images have to be my own original work, as well as any DHTML/javascript I use, correct? And I wanted to ask if graphics are a neccessity? I know too many would make the site load slower, but I would want to have at least one for the nightmist logo ofcourse, unless I don't have too, because being that i am not a boy genious I don't really know how to make them lol. Another question I have is if the whole website has to be our work, i know there isn't any way to tell if another person helped me make the site, unless ofcourse I bragged about it. But wouldn't giving a bracelet of speed to someone who didn't send in something they created on their own be a little unfair?
